are you prepared to sign the UK’s death warrant?

Do you remember watching the Berlin Wall as it was pushed over? Possibly you are too young, but got those of us who knew the Cold War period it was a symbol of hope that so many once proud nations could have the chance to escape from the tyranny of the old Soviet Bloc. But as we rejoiced at the scenes little did we know then that another dark force was gathering pace to subjugate all it could gobble up.

But as we rejoiced at the scenes little did we know then that another dark force was gathering pace to subjugate all it could gobble up.

The warning signs were there of course, but we were riding high at the end of the Eighties where so much had been done to make us prosperous and it was not until the emergence of the Marxist government of Tony Blair that a combination of people who were prepared to sell off as much of the country as they could and to give away the rest that their actions, together with the march of the EU, saw what had once been a proud nation broken beyond repair.

Voting to leave the EU is the only option if we want to keep the UK as an independent nation. Voting to remain will sentence us to become a puppet state of the EU.

There is a view from the remain camp that those of us who want to leave the EU want to turn the clock back, but we don’t. Change is constant whether good or bad and we know that we can’t go back. What we can do is to excise the cancer of the EU and get better: If we do not we will be condemned to a terminal illness that will finally destroy us.

I have worked with elements of the EU machine over the last thirty years and have seen a bloated nightmare. Take one example; a group of businesses from around Europe got together, clients and suppliers, to define a standard way of working across borders. It tool nine months to come up with an agreement that all could work with and it was put in place. Then the EU got involved and a team of over 70 people took more than 3 years to review what had been done. The result was the same document, but with changes to 6 words. How much did all of that cost and why was it necessary?

Then consider the regulations that govern public procurement: They are a supplier’s charter and bring no savings to the public purse.  in fact they probably costs us money that could otherwise be saved. One of the EU people that I spoke with told me that they would not rest until every aspect of human life had been regulated, but that it would only be a short rest because they would have to start again and review all of the regulations again to see what needed changing. And we pay for all of this!

Immigration is not an issue for me as such, although open borders are a nonsense. As an employee and an employer over the years I well understand the principle of supply and demand in the labour market and our open border policy is depressing both our economy and those of the countries that we are denuding.

The only people to be doing well out of our EU membership, besides the bureaucrats,  are the lawyers because they have so much more to work with. Get a case through the British courts and loose? No problem, you can take it to Europe and appeal. Fees and more fees pour in and who cares who pays as long as the lawyers have jobs? It is us who pay though. In one of my jobs as a senior manager i had to implement over 100 new pieces of compliance with new lays every year for the 6 years that I was in that job. Who benefitted from all of those laws? The public didn’t because, at the end of the day, it was paid for in the prices that they paid for their products; only the lawyers did well for I was paying £1000 per hour for their advice on whether or not the measures that I put in place would be effective.

I believe that the EU is also terminally ill and will die too in the not too distant future. Another good reason to vote for us to leave now because it will be better to watch it implode from the outside than to be a part of the big bang. Talk of the dire consequences of us leaving are nonsense. Most of the world is not part of the EU and does alright and to say that no-one will trade with us is also daft; people want what we sell and want us to buy their products so very little will change other that a bit of paperwork here and there and there would be a lot less paperwork to have to do.

I am British and a European, but Europe is not the EU and the EU is not Europe. we will still be a part of Europe if we leave, but to stay in the EU makes no sense at all to me and I have already cast my postal vote to leave. If too many of my fellow voters put a tick in the Remain box the I will be taking a long look at my options to say goodbye to the land of my birth and head for somewhere that will have me, somewhere that I can become a citizen of and end my days in. i certainly do not want to become a citizen of a new soviet bloc.
