Kate O’Mara

News that the lady had taken her final curtain came was rather sad for I had long had something of a soft spot for her. Not from any of her screen performances though, but from a random act of kindness. Continue reading

so I haven’t been to the cinema in thirty years

A little exchange on Facebook the other day got me thinking about films. I had commented on reading of the demise of Philip Seymour Hoffman Continue reading

News from Skaro; Dalek’s creator dies

News that Raymond Cusick has died, aged 84, brought a tinge of sadness this way for, although that is a good age, this was the gentleman who designed one of my favourite TV icons; the Dalek for whilst it was Terry Nation who came up with the idea, it was Raymond who brought that idea its shape. Continue reading

let’s get rid of the pregnant pause

Let’s get rid of the pregnant pause. Why is it that we have to have this stupid long gap between the words “And the winner is” and telling who it is. Ok, I can understand the desire to introduce some drama, but we have gone from about a 5 second pause to well past 20 seconds on some shows and it is just silly. Continue reading

how much longer can soccer keep spending millions?

The other week Patrick Collins wrote in the Mail on Sunday about football risking losing a generation of fans. His point was about the ridiculous situation of having all seated stadia and allowing people to stand, citing the problem of paying a fortune for seats for your kids only for them not to be able to see anything but the person in fronts back and therefore not being interested enough to want to follow the game. I agree with the issue of making grounds have seats and allowing people to stand; I’ve written on that subject more than once, but will it cost the game a generation? I’m not sure. Continue reading

I could find that offensive, but I’m a grown up and I choose not to

What is it about modern society and this obsession with taking offence?

A supermarket correctly labels its burgers as being reindeer and parents say that it has upset their children, so now they are calling them moose burgers. Well if, on behalf of the moose preservation society, I am offended about that, so what should the supermarket do now? Continue reading

Reef Cosmos Exhibition updated – Cairns Regional Gallery – 9 Sept to 16 Oct 2011

Reef Cosmos Poster

This exibition of artwork inspired by the Great Barrier Reef is now open and you can view a short video (taken on a cell phone camera) here on YouTube.

I have some of Stephanie Milne’s work (see picture below) and aim to acquire more. Please click on the link above to view the exibition poster. A couple of the works sold on day one, so move quickly if you are inspired by any of what you see.

I do hope that, if you are in the area, you can attend. Better still, that you can buy an original to adorn your home or office. If not, please check the Cairns Regional Gallery web site for more information and opportunities to own an original artwork.

The email address for contacting the gallery is: marketing@cairnsregionalgallery.com.au

a little light relief from The Muppets

The Muppet show was always a highlight of the weekend TV for me when the children were small. This clip is from an episode that featured Mark Hammill fresh from his Luke Skywalker role, but strikes a chord for me as a lover of DooWap singing.

So for a bit of innocent pleasure on the anniversary of a dark day for the world, enjoy a Muppet take on Ramalamadingdong.
