Happy Father’s Day #fathersday

It being Father’s Day I have, perhaps unsurprisingly, been thinking about my own father, but he is something of a distant memory. Continue reading

a change of name for the blog

The original blog title of John’s Jottings was a bit ordinary, but I had not been able to think of anything better for some time. However, Continue reading

eastbound

This piece is being written at 37000 feet over Russia which seems a little risky for a child of the cold war era with vivid memories of what befell Gary Powers when he tried it. I half expect a couple of MiGs to slide into position alongside us and fire warning shots. Continue reading

another west country uprising, a parliamentary sketch

Once more, in the traditions of Trevelyan and Monmouth, the West has risen again and sent a tide of protest towards the seat of power in London. Continue reading

letters to the editor – don’t let them buy these vehicles

Sir

Many years ago I attended training in order to improve my two wheeled skills, for in those days one could ride certain motor cycles on the road without having to pass a two wheel test. For someone who has a long record of customer service seeing and realising can mean trouble. Continue reading

all change in the middle of the mush

Well December is going see some changes, for on the 1st I can get rid of my Mo and then a week and a bit later will see the demise of Nora the Nasal Nodule as I have just had  my revised appointment for her to be expunged from the end of my nose. I’ll be taking a picture of the Mo to post on the Movember pages before it comes off so there will be a shot of the two facial appendages that I’ll add here. Continue reading

of teenagers and freedom

I was listening to some teenagers moaning on the bus the other day and one said that they wished that they were “as free as a bird or something”. Continue reading
