About thatconsultantbloke

Based in North Wiltshire UK I try to have fun whilst making things happen. I spent almost 40 years climbing the corporate ladder before getting bored with being too far from the action. Now I use my experiences of that time, the good and the bad, to keep the bills paid and have fun helping clients turn strategy into positive results.

Kate O’Mara

News that the lady had taken her final curtain came was rather sad for I had long had something of a soft spot for her. Not from any of her screen performances though, but from a random act of kindness. Continue reading

Musings on MH370

News that the flight almost certainly crashed into the ocean is not really a surprise, for had it landed, or crashed, on terra firma anywhere there would have been some news of it long since. Continue reading

don’t jump on the tracks mate

With apologies to Cy Coben, whose words I have adapted, the following came to me on the 2115 from Paddington last night, partly with regard to my own plight, this have been my second jumper in 8 days and the third in a few months, Continue reading

It’s been a good day Tilly, let’s run!

I do enjoy the expression on Malcolm’s  face in that advert, and the concept of running with the cats for joy I can relate to. Yesterday afternoon our cat Tilly declined to come out for a run with me, but it had been a good day. Continue reading

the tide of immigration, a parliamentary sketch

In the House yesterday the Leader of the Opposition, the Rt Hon Eric Millipede (Lab) demanded to know what the Government were doing to stop the tide of illegal immigration into the UK. Specifically he was referring to the invasion over the last 8 weeks or so of several billion water droplets from other, unspecified nations. “Could this tide of water not have been prevented?”  he wailed, Continue reading

We were well taught in the 50s and 60s – letters to the editor

Sir

As a primary school boy in the late 1950s and early 60s I learnt my times tables, along with the rest of the class, by chanting them or, in the case of one school by singing them. At my last primary school we were taught by the headmaster who used to take off a shoe and beat time. He could also hurl said shoe with venomous accuracy at anyone he felt was faltering keeping the beat going slapping his bare hand on the desk until his shoe was returned by one of us. letters to the editor – don’t let them buy these vehicles

Sir

Many years ago I attended training in order to improve my two wheeled skills, for in those days one could ride certain motor cycles on the road without having to pass a two wheel test. One of the key lessons was that one should obtain a motor cycle that was appropriate to one’s size; the principle being that you needed to be able to put your feet on the ground when at rest and the point was ably demonstrated by one of the instructors who was about five foot two. It was something that the dealerships also took seriously and would try hard to dissuade buyers from choosing a bike that they would find hard to manage. Continue reading
