About thatconsultantbloke

Based in North Wiltshire UK I try to have fun whilst making things happen. I spent almost 40 years climbing the corporate ladder before getting bored with being too far from the action. Now I use my experiences of that time, the good and the bad, to keep the bills paid and have fun helping clients turn strategy into positive results.

Walking Chronicles #3

So here I am back from a trip of nearly four weeks in the USA. Before going I did consider a target of not gaining any weight, but faced with the hospitality that one enjoys across the pond I thought that it would be hard. more so with a lot of travel requiring meals at odd times and in airports and on the road. An what exercise could I expect? Let’s face it my American friends will drive between shops that are but 100 yards apart. Continue reading

could a fine mind help you?

Down the millennia it is the power of thought that has moved mankind forward. Thanks to those who have been able to look at a problem and solve it and to those who have had ideas for doing things better or differently we have moved steadily forward and it is to the inventor that we owe so much that we enjoy in modern life. Walking Chronicles #2

At some point earlier this week I walked off my 10,000th calorie, something of a milestone even if it is only an estimate of what I burn during my perambulations, but still a thing to savour for such achievements contribute to motivation. My next target, possibly to be achieved later today, is to pass the 100 kilometres walked mark (I am on 96.39 at the moment and even on a bad day 4km is fairly easy to manage). Continue reading

Walking Chronicles #1

I don’t know how old I was when I first walked and as both of my parents are dead I can’t ask them; and as it was probably more than sixty years ago it hardly matters that much. Let’s just say that I have been doing it for more than sixty years. Continue reading

It being Father’s Day I have, perhaps unsurprisingly, been thinking about my own father, but he is something of a distant memory. Continue reading

If only the designers of Heathrow T2 had taken a look at Tampa

Last week I was one of around 3000 people who spent a day helping  to test the systems at Heathrow’s new Terminal 2. It was an interesting day and as someone who generally likes airports I had a good time even if I did not get to go anywhere. It is all nice and new, but Continue reading

eastbound

This piece is being written at 37000 feet over Russia which seems a little risky for a child of the cold war era with vivid memories of what befell Gary Powers when he tried it. I half expect a couple of MiGs to slide into position alongside us and fire warning shots. Continue reading

watching the ‘planes go by

I’m sitting in terminal 5 at London’s Heathrow just by gates A13/14. It’s a grey day outside, but the promised rain is holding off and the wind is from the west. Runway 27 left is the active take off runway this afternoon so the aircraft are coming towards me as they get airborne. Continue reading
